cryptoheroes

Superheroes and feminism. Two topics that have not often shaken hands in the past. The team, led by designer Wiete Sommer, is trying to find out what is expressed in the superpowers of art figures such as Bat-, Super- or Spiderman and whether and how they stand up to a feminist perspective. This performance was inspired by contemporary art, especially by visual artists such as Danae Brisso, Murat Oenen, Eulervoid and Theresa Rothe. The team develops twelve hybrid characters from four original hero types. On stage, they deal with questions that we might also ask ourselves in everyday life. What is the value of a chicken soup? What exactly is a good life? What connects us to other people? The characters end up on a catwalk in the Zentralwerk and will gradually come out of the closet...

CRYPTOHEROES stands for Wiete Sommers designer's point of view that unites the perspectives of different actors and defines collective work as a second superpower alongside art. Together with her team, Wiete Sommer attempts to renegotiate superpowers on stage. They use the concept of the hero as a basis for discussion in order to reflect on our hierarchically structured world and our colonial heritage. In their first attempt at reappraisal, they refer to the essayistic work by Ursula K. Le Guin called "In the beginning was the bag". The result is a fusion of fashion show and contemporary dance.
